Templates
The dashboard provides two kinds of templates to help you get started faster:
- Agent Templates — pre-configured agents you can clone and customise.
- Tool Templates ("Pre-defined Tools") — pre-configured tool integrations you can add to any agent.
Both are read-only in the dashboard today. You pick from the catalog — you cannot currently save your own templates from the UI.
Agent Templates
Accessing templates
Click the + button (icon-only, top-right of the agents list page). A dropdown appears with:
- Create from Template — opens the template selection dialog.
- Create from Scratch — opens a blank editor.
Template selection dialog
The dialog lists every available agent template. Each entry shows:
- Template name and description.
- The text and speech models it uses.
- A preview of the system prompt.
- The tools it includes.
Select a template and click Continue. The editor opens pre-filled with the template's configuration. Edit anything you like, then click Create Agent.
The agent you create is independent of the template — future changes to the template do not affect agents already created from it.
Tool Templates ("Pre-defined Tools")
Accessing tool templates
Inside the agent editor → Tool Integration section → click the + button:
- Pre-defined Tool — opens the tool selection dialog.
- From Scratch — start blank.
Tool selection dialog
The Choose a tool dialog combines:
- Shared tool templates — curated, platform-wide library.
- Your saved tools — tools you have previously configured on other agents.
Each entry shows: name, description, type (Local / Remote), URL (for remote tools), and auth method.
Current default platform tools include:
| Tool | Type | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Emotion Detection | Local | Detects emotion from voice/context on device. |
| ESP RainMaker | Remote | Connects to ESP RainMaker IoT platform. |
| Volume Control | Local | Controls device volume. |
| Fetch web pages | Remote | Fetches and reads web page content. |
Select a tool and click Continue. The tool is added to the agent's tool list. You can edit the URL, name, or auth details before saving.
After adding a remote (MCP) tool from a template, you still need to complete Step 2 — authorizing and fetching the tool list — on the Tool Configuration page. See Tools.
Where templates come from
Templates are seeded by your platform team. Espressif provides defaults with the platform; your platform admins can add more via internal tooling (not through the dashboard UI).
If you want a new template added to the catalog, contact your platform admin.
When to use each
| You want to… | Use |
|---|---|
| Stand up a new agent quickly | Agent Template |
| Add the same MCP tool to multiple agents | Tool Template |
| Create a variation of an existing agent | Copy via Advanced JSON. See Copy an agent. |
| Build something the templates don't cover | Create from Scratch |
Tips
- Browse templates first. Even when building from scratch, scrolling through the template list shows what tools and prompts other admins are using.
- Templates are starting points, not contracts. Treat the system prompt and tool list as suggestions — adapt them to your audience and use case.
- Your copy is independent. Once you've created an agent from a template, changes to the template won't affect your agent.
