Quick Flash with ESP Launchpad
The fastest way to get a board running. No toolchain to install — just a browser, a USB cable, and the board.
Total time: about 5 minutes, mostly waiting on flash.
What you need
- A supported board (see Supported Boards).
- A USB cable.
- A Chromium-based browser (Chrome or Edge) — Web Serial isn't supported in Safari or Firefox.
- The board's firmware ID from the table below.

Next: pair from the mobile app
Open ESP RainMaker Home and follow Install and Pair a Device starting from step 5. You're already at the QR code.
Troubleshooting
| Symptom | Try this |
|---|---|
| Browser says "no compatible serial device" | Use Chrome or Edge. Safari and Firefox don't expose Web Serial. |
| Connect dialog opens but no port listed | The USB cable is power-only (no data lines). Swap for a known-good cable. |
| Flash starts but fails partway | Press and hold the BOOT button on the board, click Flash again, then release BOOT after flashing starts. |
| Board doesn't boot after flashing | Press the RST/EN button. If still nothing, the wrong firmware was flashed for the board — double-check the URL. |
| Board runs but no QR code on screen | The display backlight might be off until pairing starts. Look in good light, or pair from packaging QR. |
What you got
The default firmware:
- Talks to Espressif's hosted production gateway at
api.agents.espressif.com. - Runs the
friendagent (Voice Chat) ormatter_controlleragent (Matter Controller) by default. - Both are public agents — your conversations are processed by Espressif's hosted platform.
If you want it to talk to your own private deployment instead, see Pointing at a Private Deployment.
If you want to change just the agent (still using Espressif's hosted platform), see Assign an Agent.
