Manage Devices
What you can do with paired devices in the ESP RainMaker Home app.
Rename
Tap the device tile → Settings → Name → edit. The new name is what shows in the app and (where supported) on the device screen.
Reprovision Wi-Fi
When you move the device to a new network or change your Wi-Fi password:
- Open the app on the same Wi-Fi as the device (or with Bluetooth in range).
- Device tile → Settings → Wi-Fi Settings → Update Wi-Fi.
- Enter the new SSID and password.
Alternatively, factory-reset the device and pair from scratch.
Groups (Homes)
Devices can be grouped — typical names are Home, Office, Studio. Useful when:
- You have multiple devices and want to scope an action to a subset.
- You're using Matter — Matter fabric membership is per-group.
Manage groups from the home screen's group switcher.
Factory reset
Two ways:
- From the app: device tile → Settings → Factory Reset. The device wipes Wi-Fi, agent ID, and pairing.
- From the device: touch and hold the top of the device's screen for ~10 seconds (board permitting).
After a factory reset, the device boots into pairing mode. Repeat the pairing flow to bring it back online.
Remove from your account
Device tile → Settings → Remove Device. This unlinks it from your account — anyone else with physical access can pair it next.
What you can't change in the app
- The device's firmware — that's an over-the-air or USB reflash. See Firmware.
- The device's default agent ID baked into firmware — change it via the QR flow (see Assign an Agent) or via the firmware's serial console.
- Custom platform endpoint — if you want the device to talk to a private deployment (your own gateway), that requires reflashing or a serial-console change. See Pointing at a private deployment.
Privacy
- Device pairing info, Wi-Fi credentials, and the assigned agent ID are stored on the device and bound to your Espressif account.
- The mobile app does not store conversation transcripts. Conversation history lives on the platform (in the cloud).
- Removing a device from your account removes the binding — the next user can pair it as new.
